QLD Motorcycle License

Overview

Starting from early April 2024, if you plan to use our vehicles for delivering with UberEats, you must hold a valid Queensland (QLD) Rider’s License. This Doc outlines the step-by-step process to obtain your QLD Motorcycle License, from applying for a CRN to completing the Q-Ride course and passing the knowledge test. Follow this guide to ensure you’re legally ready to ride and deliver.

This guide is specific to motorcycle licensing. For car licenses, you will need to follow a separate process including different written and practical tests.

Step 1: Apply for a Customer Reference Number (CRN)

You’ll need a CRN from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) before proceeding. This step is free and is essential for identification in their system.

What You’ll Need:

  • Identification: Australian or international passport
  • Proof of Address: Must show QLD residence
  • Rider’s/Driver’s License: Overseas license with NAATI-certified English translation (if not in English)
  • Additional Documents: Two of the following:
    • Student ID card (with photo)
    • Bank debit or credit card
    • Medicare card

Step 2: Complete a Q-Ride Course

Enrol in a one-day Q-Ride Motorcycle RE (Restricted) course. This practical training can be done on a scooter and tests your competency in real-world scenarios.

Course Overview:

  • Duration: Up to 8 hours
  • Prerequisites: Experience riding scooters or motorcycles in mainstream traffic. Confidence in cornering, low-speed control, and braking.

Course Components:

  • Q-Ride Exercises:
    • Figure 8’s: Controlled low-speed turns
    • Slow Ride: Maintain balance at a walking pace
    • Slalom: Weave through cones
    • Controlled Stop: Smooth braking
    • Swerve: Fast directional change
    • Emergency Stop: Stop quickly and safely
  • Road Ride:
    • A 2-hour practical ride through varying speed zones (up to 80 km/h)
    • Discussion-based evaluation of defensive techniques

Step 3: Pass the Knowledge Test

The multiple-choice test is required to assess your understanding of road rules and rider safety.

Test Details:

  • Total Questions: 30
  • Pass Mark: Minimum of 27 correct answers
  • Rules:
    • You may get 1 question wrong from the first 10
    • You may get 2 questions wrong from the last 20

Once you have a CRN, you might be able to complete this test online, alternatively you can visit your nearest TMR Office and give the test over there.

Step 4: Apply for Your QLD Motorcycle License

After completing the course and test, visit a TMR Customer Service Centre with your documents to receive your RE (Restricted) license.

Exemptions

If you are from an exempt country, you may not be required to complete Steps 2 and 3.
